It was an honor to speak in 4 classrooms last week at my very own Alma Mater! Being back in the walls of my Dear old Central High School was a reminder of how important it is participate in career days as a young professional. I remember my first career day as a presenter, it was virtually during COVID, and the students were so excited to hear about something so tangible like going to Grad School or choosing a major. This year, I shared how Central prepared me for my role today as the Program Coordinator for Leadership and Service at Temple University, my role and duties has a Miss America Organization Titleholder, and of course now branching into the Content Creation space. There was a point where we had a very interesting and rather in depth conversation about how I stopped eating meat but that’s a story for another post, haha. She’s back! ✨ On July 6th, 2024, I deleted all of my social media. I had no Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more for over three months. I am fortunate enough to live in a generation where the importance of mental health is widely recognized
She’s back! ✨ On July 6th, 2024, I deleted all of my social media. I had no Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more for over three months. I am fortunate enough to live in a generation where the importance of mental health is widely recognized, especially in the pageant community. Over the course of 6 months as Miss Philadelphia’s Teen, I made it my mission to do as much as possible. And I’m proud to say that I made over 50 appearances in just a little over 180 days. While I loved doing as much as possible, it left me exhausted. Simultaneously, I was expected to keep up my 4.0 gpa, continue to develop my 501(c)(3), theatre productions, a social media presence, working out five times a week, and various clubs at school. After the Miss Pennsylvania’s Teen competition held in June 2024, I hit a wall. My body felt heavy. I needed a break. I needed time to regather my thoughts. I already know that this is going to be a difficult year academically. I’m taking multiple AP and dual enrollment classes, prepping for the SAT, and working on college applications. I turned my phone off and stopped replying to everything. In that time, I started reading more, being outside for longer periods of time, got into the habit of running and doing yoga, and spent time with the people I loved most: my friends and family. Distance makes the heart grow fonder; while I had a fantastic summer, I missed my job. I missed going on appearances, I missed making an impact on my community, I missed making goofy reels with my sister queens, and I missed Miss America as a whole. I never doubted for a second that Miss America wasn’t the place for me: Pageantry has given me every opportunity to succeed. Both personally and professionally. It has made me a better communicator, more confident, and more resilient. Not to mention, being able to fund 20+ dual enrollment credits thus far. Now, I’m ready to move forward. I’m excited to return back to what I love doing. I want to paint pageantry in a positive light, but I also want to be open about my mental health.
